The animal kingdom is vast and diverse. Animals come in all shapes, sizes and colours. It is indeed fascinating just to take a glance or observe them. But doing so may be perilous to any person especially because a lot of the animals no matter how cute and cuddly, are territorial and protective. Some animals even display human attributes which make them harder to handle. The next thing a person knows is that he or she is already being munched into pieces like a raw meat. For this reason, the zoo has been invented. Through zoos, people get a chance to watch and wonder from a safe location the animals.

And although zoos are nice to visit and spend time at, zookeepers actually know that it is quite a handful especially when animals become anthropomorphic. In relation to this discussion, anthropomorphism is thus understood as the attribution of human traits or personality to animals (Wikipedia 2008). In other words, an anthropomorphic animal is an animal that have a quality that a human person has. This therefore poses problems to the modern day zookeepers. First of all, if an animal has human attributes, then the usual or normal ways of dealing with it will be changed dramatically. The frame of mind will be different.

It will thus seem like it is a person to person interaction rather than a person to an animal one. Take for example a spoiled zoo animal. The normal way of feeding that animal is no loner as easy as putting food in the cage. The zookeeper must then take into account, the moods of the animal in dealing with it. This will therefore take a large amount of time and effort. This is further worsened by the fact that there a numerous animals in a zoo to take care of. Another problem that zookeepers encounter with regard to anthropomorphic animals is the complicated handling of that animal.

An animal by its own nature is already complex in dealing with. This is then further aggravated by the fact that an animal has human qualities making an already complicated matter more complicated. It will be difficult to control and understand the animal due to the unpredictable behaviour as an animal and as an animal with human traits. In essence, although it is sometimes amazing to see that animals may have the qualities humans have, it also obscures the very notions and nature of the animals themselves. This may make these animal confused but more importantly, this will make zookeepers more confused.
